Hannah Blunden

My work is concerned with images and experiences that are transient and difficult to grasp hold of or pin down. I find them everyday within the surrounding landscape and the realms of memory, often just a trace of something, a movement, a moment, a glimpse, appearing and fading away. Images from a recurring dream, light reflecting on a wall or dazzling through a space, a landscape that flashes past a train window; time, movement, light and disintegration connect them.

I explore these images and experiences through their reproduction and repetition in painting, film and photography, interested in the process of translation from one to another, or from a memory to an image, an experience into a photograph and then into a painting. Different layers of time and imagery exist and interact in the same instant. Through playing and loosely controlling my materials and media, I allow their specific qualities to come through in this translation.
